The Hub at Causeway: the Details on the Big TD Garden Party

Boston Curbed | January 28, 2016 | By Tom Acitelli

State and city officials, along with representatives from developers Delaware North and Boston Properties, attended an official groundbreaking on Wednesday for the Hub on Causeway, the ginormous project slated for the old Boston Garden site along Causeway Street in the West End/North End borderlands. Ultimately, the development will mean more than 1.5 million square feet of shops, restaurants, offices, hotel rooms, and residences, as well as an expansion of nearby TD Garden and transit improvements to North Station. For now, Phase I is underway.

The Hub on Causeway’s first phase should wrap in time for a late 2018 opening and will include:
· 210,000 square feet of multi-level retail/restaurant space, including Boston’s largest supermarket, a 60,000-square-foot Star Market, and the Northeast’s first ArcLight Cinema, ArcLight Boston, a 60,000-square-foot theater with 15 screens
· 10,000 square feet of outdoor space for a new entrance to TD Garden and North Station
· 540 spaces of below-grade parking that will be connected to the existing North Station garage
· 64,000 square feet of new space for TD Garden on floors three through nine
· 175,000 square feet of what the developers are calling “creative office space”
· A covered, underground connection from the commuter rail to the subway at North Station and a new entrance to North Station via Causeway Street

Phase II, to start later, will comprise:
· A 440-unit, 38-story apartment tower
· A 10-story hotel with 260 rooms

Finally, Phase III would be a 21-story office tower with around 525,000 square feet.
